Tips on Eating Healthy

August 24th, 2008

Okay, so I have succumbed to doing what hubby has been doing.  I am going to do my own Daily Plate and put everything down what I have eaten all day! You’re asking “Why?” - hubby has been doing this for a few weeks now and he has actually lost weight without “dieting” and since he cooks during the week, I have to eat what he cooks. :)  So, might as well do the same thing and the only trick to this, is that you need to be VERY HONEST with yourself and put what you’ve eaten for the day! That means, if you had a donut at the office, you need to put that down. So, effective this Monday, Aug 25th - I will be starting my own daily plate…

This is some of the guidelines that you need to watch what you eat….oh yea, hubby sent this to me too… :o)

1. No Flour, No Sugar Diet Eliminates Empty Carbs

The focus of any no-sugar diet is to eliminate empty calories, especially white flour, sugar and white rice. These calories are considered empty because they provide energy in the form of starch or sugar, but little or no nutrition such as protein, good fats, vitamins, fiber or nutrients. Unless energy needs are exceptionally high, such as in the case of athletes, empty calories should be extremely limited.

2. Added Sugar is Excluded in the No Sugar Diet

Any food with added sugar, in the form of cane sugar, corn syrup, high fructose syrup, fructose, maple syrup, honey or molasses, is banned. The no-sugar diet allows whole fruit and vegetables as well as milk, even though fruit contain fructose and milk has lactose. These natural sugars, eaten with the nutrients found in the food, are not damaging in the same way as processed and added sweeteners.

3. No Sugar Diets Help with Weight Loss

Eliminating sugary foods will lead to weight loss for most dieters, simply because so many calories are cut out. Others will find that their metabolism is boosted by the change in nutrition. Eating too much sugar and white flour wreaks havoc on blood sugar; ceasing this and improving the diet helps repair bodily functions. The no-sugar diet is often followed by diabetics and people with blood sugar problems.

4. Some No Sugar Diets Are Insufficient

Some nutritionists caution that no-sugar diets fall short because they don’t focus on what should be eaten, just on what to avoid. If the diet doesn’t inform dieters as to what should be eaten in a well rounded diet, it misses the mark.

5. On a No Sugar Diet, Eat Whole Foods

When following a no-sugar diet, eat whole foods and eliminate or minimize processed foods. Eat good fats, which are not the culprit. Weight loss can be achieved while eating good fats and whole foods, as long as more calories are burned than are consumed. Grass-fed meats, fresh dairy and eggs and whole grains are excellent choices when following a no-sugar diet.

Friday Nite…surprise…

August 21st, 2008

Okay, so this was last week, I just didn’t get around to it…meaning to post it! So here is my little story! ENJOY!

I just had to share this you all, Fridays I work downtown with well known Restaurant Broker - he knows all that is to know who’s who in Charleston Cuisine..from owner to Chef’s owner….

Well, usually if he has a meeting with one of his client, hubby drops me off and he goes does his stuff…Am usually done by 5pm (that is if the boss man doesn’t have a contract to do NOW)…well this or yesterday (Friday) I was out by 5pm…and hubby was running a bit late…hmmmm….think he’s trying to tell me something here…Blend Coffee & Gourmet Dining

Okay, well he picked me up, we had to go to the bank to put $$ to our checking, one to the business and the other to personal….then I thought we were going home for dinner, as I’ve not had any lunch, as I had heartburn all day and just drinking loads of water…

So we’re driving…and he’s not going toward home? So I ask where are we going? In downtown Charleston, there are a lot ONE WAYs street….so he says “okay i need to go here, and this is where I want to go”…so I ask “what are you doing here? ….ahhhh…Oh, we’re going to Blend - we ate there before a few weeks back and I had a salad…it was really good and yes….WOW…it was a nice surprise!! …well, the deli part was closed but we could sit outside or upstairs, we went upstairs on the Patio and there were a few people and music entertainment from 2 groups..one was a man/woman team..and the other one was a solo…and both were really good! Dessert

We had the most enjoyable evening at Blend and the music was great and the food!!!!!!! We happen to arrived for happy hour and the food was scrumptious!! I would recommended people to go there…its a very popular place and we had the best seats!

DessertSee my honey sometimes do surprise me with things like that… I love to do things spur of the moment and this one was a surprise, he does things like this and I really love it!!

So, if ever you’re around downtown, go check out Blend, its across from MUSC on Ashley and Doughty…

My Son…

August 11th, 2008

This weekend, my son Adam spent it with me! WOW…he’s finally decided to spend a bit of time with his Mom! Well, first off, Dad went away for little holiday with his now girlfriend…they went to Savannah, GA

Well, first off, he had a scrimmage game at James Island on Friday, I thought he said to get him at school at 630pm…i got there a bit early and there were cars, but no bus…waited and decided to go home and text him to call me when they got there…time went to like 8.30pm in the evening, no phone call, or any text messages!! Called the house, and Mark (the ex) answered and ask where is he? That’s when he said he still should be at the game as it didn’t’ start till around 5.30 or 6pm!! They played James Island HS. Okay a bit of mis-communication from either my son, Adam or I…no matter, I was not anxious or worried…well a little later, he calls me and says “Mom come get me”…picked him up, got his stuff from his house and proceeded to go to my house, he was all sweaty, and they won the game!! That was nice and he started and told me how many blocks and fumbles… he’s got the bruises to prove it.. I do still worry, when he plays football, as it a dangerous sport! I think anyways…but he’s really good! I’ve seen him play!

So just have to tell him to wrap up tight and make sure his knees are wrapped good as well as his ankles, yes, he’s been hurt and I want him to be protected….I pray every day that he is okay, this new semester is fast coming up soon and he’s been going to practice everyday as well as working during the summer break at BI Lo close to his house.  I’m very proud of him and I know he will do well in school! He has plans for his future and I know that Football is one of them & college. It was a nice weekend and man this boy can eat!

I made dinner and it was healthy dinner, pork chop with spinach salad and peas and squash. That boy tore it down and still hungry! Had to go to Taco Bell for burrito and queso something….

He has a long day tomorrow, football practice all day! So, going to drop him off at school by 7.30am and his Dad pick him up later that evening.  My baby is growing up… i remember when he just started to walk, talk…*sighs*

Oh, we went shopping for a certain type of Book bag and he got a certain type of Croc shoes, which is really a comfy shoe, I might get one, as I am on my feet alot…when I have a few extra $$!

Well, am off to bed now, my son the athlete is already asleep! He gets at least 8 hrs of sleep…he has grown, I remember a little boy who wont’ eat his veggies, but this boy is healthy! Drinks lots of water….am impressed!

Enough of me bragging…oh, I need to take more pic, but he likes to make faces…so will have to post it another time…he’s my handsome boy… :o)  can’t you tell, am crowing with pride.. its must be in the my genes….hehehehe

Living in the Community…

August 6th, 2008

Well guess what they’ve done all the buildings and they are working on my building (the LAST one) and we will be closing the loan and we can move on to the next in our agenda.  It had to happen sooner than later, but I stuck it out this far and I just can’t do it anymore….I’ve relinquished the responsibility of the Construction Loan Account - just too much and especially if a member of the board is a F*$&^ lazy ass cow that don’t want to do anything…spineless piece of dang…he can take the responsibility and be accountable for it as well!

Well, as always, the 2 other board members took it upon themselves to get the checkbooks and other paper work, but did we hear anyhthing from the other member? Of course this person shall be nameless for while, but if he makes a angry again….

The buildings are looking wonderful and we are now concentrating on doing the landscaping and the paving of our roads….this community will be a wonderful place and its starting to be there…soonest!

I think I’ve put some pics up, but will take more pictures soon.  We are having our meeting next month, for the closing of the loan and the a full report from the PM of course and then we will annouce that we will only have meeting Quarterly….its moving on as planned i think….

So keep coming back and stay tuned to the next drama…cuz we got lots of it and its better than the soaps! LOL….

Have a wonderful evening everyone and stay tuned to the next saga…. :D
